Hi, I'm researching a family of McLeays, originally from Ross-shire here in Scotland. One of them was a Royal Navy surgeon, John McLeay, born in 1792, served on several voyages, but who died in Scotland in 1825 just before setting off on a voyage aged 33. But amazingly, I see in your Presbyterian Witness transcripts "PASSOW Frederick Mounts M. Wed 26th inst (of H.M. Post Office Dept); Catherine Janet, eldest d/o late John MCLEAY, Surgeon, R.N., by Rev. R.F. Uniacke at St George’s Church. Sat 29 Jul 1848 Vol 1 No. 30. P. 239". Would anyone know anything at all about the background to this lady? Is it just a remarkable coincidence of names and specialised employment, or is it the same family?
