Hi Folks:
I have tried without much success to track the
person I am told, via family oral history, was
my original immigrant ancestor to North America.
His name was William and he was a butcher by
trade. I do not know what part of Scotland
he hails from, but family history reports that it
was Glasgow. I suspect though, that this may
just be the home port of the ship that brought him
over. I am not sure of his generational chronology
in my family tree. His descendants in Nova Scotia
(at least my immediate family relatives) resided
in Pictou. My great grandfather's name was James
..I believe James William. He was married to a
Susan Bowdridge. They had several children,
among them Thomas Leonard MacLean (my grandfather).
Other names of siblings of my grandfather
include James Albert, Eleanor, Myrtle
and I believe one was named Kenneth (family
history reports that he died in a mine...I hear
it was in Sydney Mines but it may have been
closer to Pictou...he was around 21 or 22 at the
time of that accident, I'm told it was in the early
1920s. Another daughter of James (my great
grandfather) is thought to have been named
"Ethel" and she died quite young, at around twelve
years of age due to complications of diptheria.
My grandfather Thomas, spent quite a bit of time
lumberjacking on NFLD when he was young as
well as working farms in Saskatewan...in the
Regina area. Regina is where he married my
grandmother Susan Billard, who hailed from Burgeo
NFLD. They emmigrated to Rhode Island, shortly
after their marraige
If this history sounds familiar to anyone on this board
please contact me directly at fireflifourtyfour"at"cox.net
I'd be most appreciative of any information any one
could offer me about this line of MacLeans. Jami in RI
