After my grandfather (with alztimers) got out of the house and wondering the streets, it took 3 phone calls before someone went to find him. One call to 911 telling us to call the local police, called local police and they said to call the Hospital, then called 911 which transferred us to the local police which still would not go out and look for him. This is why you hear of people being lost in the woods and not found, the police are to lazy to get off there ass to go look when the call is first put in. After these calls we gave up and went out our selves. Finally the police showed up and picked him up and took him to the hospital, for two days this 90 year old sat in the out door on a stretcher. Which there was no need of that?
After living in this community for 90 years they shipped him to Halifax home when the only family he has lives in Pictou County. All he has is me his granddaughter and his daughter. It is really hard to travel back and forth to see him.
He lost his wife in October and was taking to live with his daughter in Trenton in November and now shipped to Halifax. Where everything is new.
He was born in Westville in 1914 and lived mainly there for his hole life. He was a miner and worked on the Trans Canada Highway when it was first built. He built his own home on Dufferin Street in Westville. Where he raised his son Mike in BC, his daughter Cathy and his late son John.
After several attempts to try and get the local MLA's to help in transferring him back this way with his family, They would give us the run around or not return our phone calls.
Recently a man from sackville has been transferred to the Glen Haven and his daughter is in the same situation as us, she has to travel from Sackville to New Glasgow and us up there to see them. Where Sackville is only 20 min away where my grandfather is in the home. Now does this make sence? This first available bed thing really is not working when placing people in homes. Family location should be first then beds. There are several alternative situations that cane be dome to prevent this.
One the better note the only person that called me back about anything about this is Sandy the Mayor of Westville. Which I would like to Thank very much for returning the call. That is better then what the other people have been doing for us.
