Hi Everyone,
I am hoping someone will be able to help me out. I am researching my husband's genealogy and have come to a bit of a brick wall.
My husband's great grandmother is Mary (May) Shaw. We are not sure where the Shaw comes in, as her father is listed on her marriage certificate as Valentine Dunn. Through further investigation, it appears as though his name is Kenneth Valentine Dunn (born February 14, 1884). The problem we are having is that both Mary and Kenneth are adopted children.
On Mary's marriage certificate, it lists her parents as Valentine Dunn & "Missus" Fraser. I know she is adopted as I was able to briefly connect with her son, who confirms this. He doesn't know any further information about the adoption. Mary was born in August of 1905. She married Thomas McDonald in 1924. I have been unable to find a record of her birth (perhaps due to name change?)
On the 1901 Census from Trenton, Pictou, Nova Scotia, it shows Kenneth V. Dunn as an adopted son of a lady named Margaret Dunn, widow (born 1838). It lists Margaret as a "keeping boarders", so knowing that she ran some sort of boarding home I am hoping maybe someone will have some knowledge.
I am hoping maybe somebody from the area knows something about this family.
Thanks in advance!
