Hello everyone. I desperatly need some help tracing my fammily tree.
My great grandmother told a story about her family that they had a paisley shawl factory in Scotland and that her family were disinherited from their fortune. This story exactly matches the history of the Robert Cullen/ Janet Crawford family who came from Scotland to Pictou. My great grandmother's surname is Cullen. www.lrbcg.com/jtcullen/DalrCull.htm
My great grandmother was Elizabeth Cullen, she was born in 1904 to Daivd and Elizabeth (Brown) Cullen and later married Arthur Brown.
I dont know Daivd or Elizabeth's birth dates but my mother told me that Daivd died in the mines in about 1906 and Elizabeth died a year later leaving my great grandmother to live with her aunt (i think).
I believe that David Cullen is the son of Daivd Cullen who is the son of Robert and Janet Cullen.
The problem I am encountering is that I can't find Daivd Cullen Sr. on the census in Pictou (or anywhere else in N.S). I have found a David Cullen who was living with his mother Mrs Cullen in the 1901 census and who was 26 years old at the time.
Since the only census for N.S. around thi time are the 1901 (before my great grandmother was born) and the 1911 (after both parents were dead) I cant find them all in the census together.
I cant find my great grandmother in the 1911 census, she would have been 7 and living with a relative (she also had a younger sister who was adopted by a couple in Bridgewater but I will concentrate on that when I have this covered lol).
I have searched through the names on the miners memorial and I can't find a listing for Daivd Cullen, only John Cullen who died in the 1930's.
I am completly lost as I dont know where to turn nowand I am almost 100% sure they were all in Pictou their entire life. I cant find anything on them at all. I am not able to go to Pictou myself as I am lving in England at the moment.
Does anyone have any suggestions on where to turn next or has anyone researched this part of the family as i know some people have researched Robert and janet cullen.
Thanks very much
