Greetings from south of the border. My father-in-law was Richard Munroe Fleming, b.1910, Monessen, Westmoreland county, Pennsylvania. His father was Hugh M. Fleming, b.1886 in Nova Scotia. Per the 1910 & 1920 US census, Hugh worked as a machinist in wire & steel plants, he emigrated in 1906, and his parents were also born in Nova Scotia. Family legend has it that he came initially as a coal miner. Considering the naming pattern in the family, I am thinking that my father-in-law's middle name possibly implies a link to the Munroe family. I have found a Fleming family in the 1901 census for Pictou district, Stellarton subdistrict, having a son Hugh b.1886, mother Margaret b. 19.Sep.1866, and father James b. 16.Jun.1863, who is listed as a coal miner. Have also found a few Munro(e)s. If any of these names makes a connection, any information would be appreciated. Kenneth Thompson (kthompsn@springmail.com) Moline Acres (north StLouis County) MO
